I've been working on a series of blog post for over a month now and got stuck on a few of them. Instead of getting down and frustrated I decided I would just start with a simple one to help preface some of what's to come.
We all want better skin, even those of us who have good skin often think we don't. I've come up with a few realistic ideas to help you feel more confident in the skin God has given you!
1. Spend less time in front of the mirror
If we're honest we all spend WAY too much time in the mirror especially those of us who are either single or married without children yet (children really open your eyes a lot). The amount of time we spend getting ready is pretty ridiculous. And the more time we spend in front of the mirror the more we see
they stand out and become bigger and bigger in our eyes. I want to encourage you to really evaluate how much time your spending in front of the mirror and try to set a time limit for yourself ESPECIALLY on the days when you're feeling extra "ugh"
2. Go make-up less
I know, I know this is a hard one especially if your skin is in a place where it's breaking out all the time. But our skins needs fresh air, it needs the vitamin D from the sun and needs a chance to really breath. So take it off and work that beautiful face you have even if it's just in the comfort of your own home.
3. Choose products that allow your skin to breath
Especially if you have a really hard time with number 2 it's REALLY important you choose products that allow your skin to breath and promote it's natural defenses rather than ones that create a mask. I'll be going into to more depth about this with a few companies along with science to help you understand just how important it is to have products that breath. MOST of our standard beauty products, from shampoo to mascara actually create a layer over our skin that prevent it from functioning properly and they cause a lot of build up creating bigger problems.
4. Nobody has PERFECT skin
Even if you have nice skin it will NEVER be perfect.
Did you hear that?!
IT WILL NEVER BE PERFECT!
Flawlessness is just not a realistic view. We will still get the odd pimple, sometimes right in the middle of your forehead right before a big event but we need to change our perspective and stop listening to all those crazy people telling you perfection is a possibility.
We are imperfect and
we live in a imperfect world.
Perfection simply put just isn't a possibility nor something we should strive for - let go of the idea and lets move on to see that there is beauty in our imperfections.
5. Eat less sugar
I personally know this one all to well. Anytime I eat too much sugar it shows up on my face in this random cluster of YUCK! Eating a balanced diet will always make our skin bright and happier. More science on this coming in a future post.
6. Changing products WILL cause break-outs for a TIME
When I worked at a beauty store back in the day this was the one thing we were told to warn customers, you will see a change in your skin often for the worse BEFORE it gets better. You will find this especially if you are changing from products that create "masks" to ones that promote your skins health and allow it to breath because all the bacteria, chemicals and gunk that was trapped in your skin before comes out, and more often than not in the form of crazy skin problems. I will also be touching on how switching products will actually save you money something I've experienced myself!
7. Emphasize a feature you like.
If your skin is covered in the unwanted yuck, find a feature about yourself that you love, that be your eyes, your lips, your cheek bones etc. Do your make-up in a way that emphasizes that feature, it will help you to see something about yourself that you like and draw attention away from all the parts your don't like.
8. Nobody sees what you see
You know that large pimple on your forehead you've been staring at for the last 10 minutes, wonder how your going to cover it up? And you know how it just gets larger and larger the more you stare at it?! Well GUESS WHAT?!? it's NOT THAT BIG! No it's not and more than likely the rest of the population doesn't see it, they aren't examining your face as much as you, so stop looking in the mirror, cover it if you need to and move on. YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!
I hope these are helpful, encouraging and I can't wait to elaborate more on some of the topics I've talked about. Please feel free to message me with anything else you'd like to know about or if you have questions regarding product suggestions if you are looking for breathable products!
